Welcome to the online home of Miss Does' 8th grade English class. I designed this wiki in order to allow our class to have a controlled web presence that allows us to take advantage of the educational opportunities the internet has to offer in a safe, supervised manner. Students will be responsible for posting in the Vocabulary Vault once a week and will also be utilizing web-based tutorials and activities compiled on this wiki for at least one writing project (the famous Instructopod assignment).
Although most of this site is designed for the students to explore the English language and engage in creative learning experiences, this section is just for you. It is meant to keep you informed about what's going on in the classroom and connected to the school community. To that end, I'll be posting a number of things to this site as the year goes on and updating it at least once a week. Please do your best to stay up to date so that you can help me help your child learn and grow as a writer.
One of the most important things I'll be posting on this page is information about the units each class is currently covering. By following my posts, you'll be able to keep track of what's going on the the classroom. I will also be putting up the assignment sheets and due dates for upcoming major assignments so that you can help make sure your child is managing his/her time appropriately. Another useful feature of this page will be a monthly calendar of events that highlights the academic, athletic, and social activities at the school. This will include special events in my classroom as well as grade-wide and school-wide activities.
Again, I hope you check this space frequently and stay connected with what the class is up to. It promises to be a fantastic year!
